Tribes India Wishes You a Happy International Yoga Day
International Yoga Day that is commemorated every year on 21st June can be said to have its root in India. The idea of International Yoga Day was originally conceived by our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, who went ahead and proposed the concept on September 27, 2014, at UN General Assembly during his speech. Taking this further the resolution to adopt this day as the International Yoga Day was introduced by Indian Diplomat who was a Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, Mr. Ashoke Kumar Mukerj
This resolution can be seen as a victorious moment for Indian soft power as it garnered support from 177 nations which is the highest number of co-sponsors for any UN Resolution. The International Yoga day has since then been celebrated with great enthusiasm by countries from all over the world. This year the Solstice Event is being organised on the eve of International Yoga day at New Yorks, Times Square and will have a diverse variety of handmade Indian products from the interiors of the country available for display and distribution to the guests. The idea of presenting local Indian products made by our indigenous tribes to the world and giving the Indian Tribal Art Bank an international exposure was made possible by TRIFED. As the nodal agency for Tribal Welfare under Ministry of Tribal Affairs, TRIFED has collaborated with Consulate General of India in New York to explore various channels for popularising these products in the US. The products on display will include high quality traditionally made Yoga Mats, T-shirts, Organic produce and Immunity boosters.
Yoga is said to create a balance not only of mind and body but also of oneself with the environment. The word ‘yoga’ is a derivation from Sanskrit which means ‘to unite’. Yoga is not merely an exercise, it is an art of creating balance between body, soul and mind. Since ages, sages have known to harness the power of Yoga through meditation and are said to have performed acts of miracle, such is the energy it creates.
The best part is that it can be practiced at any age in fact it is never too late to start but the earlier you begin the healthier you could be and it requires no ‘stunt’ skills. It could easily be incorporated in our daily routine. Path of self-knowledge and self-realization can be attained via positive thinking, perseverance, discipline, right orientation, prayer and Yoga is an amalgamation of all.
